REBATES

A rebate is the part of an abatement, credit, refund, or other repayment made on the grounds that the tax imposed was less than the sum of the amount shown as the tax on the return plus amounts not shown on the return but previously assessed (or collected without assessment). Code Section
6664(a). Thus, for example, it includes amounts refunded as a result of the taxpayer's request for a quickie refund on Form 1139, Corporate Application for Tentative Refund.
